Although most children don’t require early treatment, certain issues are best treated while the jaws are just beginning to develop. Evaluating your child at an early age can help avoid extraction of adult teeth and correct additional problems that can’t be fixed later in adolescence. Early treatment, which is also called Phase I, is best for treating children with crossbites, habits (i.e. thumb sucking, tongue thrusts or mouth breathing), severe crowding, overbites, underbites and traumatic biting that can lead to teeth chipping or recession.
If your child’s jaws are developing normally, we like to see them every six months for a complimentary appointment to monitor their development until they are ready for orthodontic treatment.
Orthodontic problems don’t improve with age – they simply become harder to treat as bones become stiffer and more developed. It’s easier to treat many orthodontic issues during adolescence because the body is still growing rapidly. In later years, when the bones of the face and jaw are fully developed, many conditions or malocclusions become more difficult, costly and time-consuming to treat.
Every child is different, and everyone gets their full set of adult teeth at different times. An evaluation by Dr. Friedman can help determine a timeline for when your child will be ready to begin their orthodontic treatment.
Contact us to learn moreOver the past ten years, orthodontics for adults has become much more popular. Advances in the industry have allowed treatment options for adults that are more comfortable than when they were children. Gentler wires are now available, which makes tooth movement more comfortable. Other treatment options like Invisalign or clear braces are also more esthetic and conducive to the adult lifestyle.
Adults who have chosen to improve their smile have undergone profound changes in their social and professional lives and an individualized treatment approach will help create the best solution for those results. Our office has also been designed with separated rooms to offer our adult patients a more private experience.
Contact us to learn moreEach set of aligners is worn for one week, removing them only to eat, drink and brush your teeth. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to their final positions.
With absolutely no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten, Invisalign is also a simple choice offering no potential for emergencies like poking wires or broken brackets. You will experience improved oral hygiene and a more comfortable process overall with less pressure and little soreness.
Although you can replace your weekly aligners on your own, you will also visit us every eight weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. This clean, simplified solution is the most modern approach to achieve your natural beautiful smile.
